Bathinda: The Diyalpura police on Thursday arrested a woman as her husband committed suicide by consuming poison.



Bathinda: The Diyalpura police on Thursday arrested a woman as her husband committed suicide by consuming poison. The deceased has been identified as Harmail Singh (45), a resident of Burj Ladha Singh Wala village, and arrested the woman identified as Manjeet Kaur. A case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC against Manjeet Kaur has been registered on the statement of her stepson Sukhpal Singh, a resident of Burj Ladha Singh Wala. The police on Thursday produced the woman in the court, which sent her in 14-day judicial custody. Sukhpal Singh has stated that his father had solemnised second marriage after the death of his mother. There was a dispute between his father and his stepmother as the former had doubts regarding her character, he said. Due to the dispute, his father consumed poison on Wednesday night. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. TNS

17 fined for smoking in public

Bathinda: Cracking the whip on those flouting the norms under the Control of Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), teams constituted by the Health Department, Mansa, today issued challans to 17 persons for not adhering to the guidelines. Mansa Civil Surgeon-cum-nodal officer COTPA, Dr Surinder Singh said the teams of the department raided various public places, including grain market and vegetable market. An amount of Rs 1,830 was collected after issuing challans. He said the teams checked smoking in public places, advertisement for tobacco products, ban on sale, purchase or consumption of tobacco products by those under the age of 18 years, sale, purchase or consumption of tobacco products within 100 sq yard radius of educational institutions and other rules under the Act. Sub-inspector promoted

Bathinda: Sub-inspector Jagdish Kumar, in-charge of the CIA wing of the Mansa police, was on Thursday promoted as inspector. SSP Parambir Singh Parmar placed the stars on his dress. The state police has given him promotion as he solved many of cases in the team of DIG (Counter intelligence) Ranbir Singh Khatra. Jagdish Kumar, former in-charge of the CIA wing of the Bathinda police was also honoured with the President’s medal in 2016. TNS
