Claiming a major success in their fight against the drug menace, the Mansa police today nabbed four alleged drug smugglers and recovered a huge quantity of drugs including 10.2 kg of poppy husk and 300 gm of opium that was being brought from across the state border by them. The four accused held have been booked in two separate cases.

Inspector Dalbir Singh, SHO, Budhlada, along with his team including constable Yadvinder Singh and others nabbed Gurmeet Singh and Iqbal Singh of Sardarewala village of Ratia in Haryana along with 10.2 kg of poppy husk that was being brought by the accused on their Bajaj Platina bike (HR 59 C 5334).

Police claimed that the accused were nabbed during police patrolling near a bridge in village Kulana of Mansa district and the poppy husk was being carried in a polythene bag. The accused have been booked under sections 15, 25, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at Budhlada city police station.

Similarly, a police team lead by head constable Bhagwant Singh set up a barrier at a bridge near village Bakhshiwala of Mansa following a tip-off and nabbed two of the accused, including Surjit Singh and Billu Kumar of Aleeka in Ratia of Haryana.

Both the accused, police claimed, were travelling in a Maruti car and were carrying about 300 gm of opium for sale in Punjab. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act at Bareta police station of Mansa district.

SSP, Mansa, Raghubir Singh Sandhu said, “The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act as they were nabbed along with drugs.

Most drug smugglers from across the state border opt for link roads or roads passing through the villages to escape the police, but we set up barriers on these routes after getting a tip-off so that these can be caught red-handed.”
