To mark Human Rights Day, various religious and social organisations today took out a peaceful protest march in the city. The march started from Gurdwara Singh Sabha and passed through various markets and concluded outside the district court complex.

Addressing a protest rally, Dal Khalsa vice-president Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj said justice denied till date in the 1984 Sikh genocide incidents was a violation of human rights.

He said the government was suppressing the voice of people and minority community should come on one platform together to safeguard their interest. He said at present there was animal right in the country, but there was no human right.

Even various resolutions were passed which included giving respect to the Punjabi language, youth wrongly implicated in false cases should be released without any term and condition, Sikh inmates who have completed their jail sentence should be released, Sikh inmates lodged in jails outside Punjab should be brought back in the state.

Rajwinder Singh Raikhana, Jiwan Singh Gill Kalan, Jagdeep Singh, Baljinder Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Major Singh, Babu Dipali, Amardeep Singh, Surinder Singh, Baljit Singh, Jasvir Singh, Baba Satnam Singh, Avtar Singh and others were present in the protest march.
