Bathinda, February 19

To curb open urinating in the city, the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda, (MCB) has started a drive to issue a challan of Rs 500 each to the violators.

In the past 19 days, the MCB sanitation branch has issued total 281 challans for urinating in the open, open defecation and construction material lying in the open on the road in the city.

Chief sanitary inspector Satish Kumar said, “They have started issuing challans for urinating in the open in the city.”

He said to check the practice, the MCB had opened new public toilets and even installed temporary toilet blocks at the bus stand and other places in the city.

The step of the MCB to curb urinating in the open is being appreciated by city residents, especially women.

Manjit Kaur, a student, said the practice might be awkward for all, but is certainly more embarrassing for women passers-by.

She said she had failed to understand why people go for urinating in the open even as toilets were available in shops, markets, bus stand and other places.

Another resident Mona Garg said it was a good initiative taken by the MCB to issue challans to people for urinating in the open.

She said it was a common practice in the city, which could be seen every day on city roads. There is a need to change the mindset of city residents, who indulge in such this obnoxious practice, she added.
