Barnala: The Barnala (City) police have booked two inmates of Barnala jail after the authorities confiscated a mobile phone from them.

As per information, on Saturday, during a search of both Sukhdev Singh and Ferozdeen, the jail authorities seized one Samsung mobile with double SIM cards. They informed jail superintendent Gupreet Singh, who wrote a letter to the police station. Sukhdev Singh has been facing a case registered under the NDPS Act at the Tapa police station while Ferozdeen is facing another NDPS case registered at the Mehal Kalan police station. “We have registered a case against both Sukhdev and Ferozdeen and started further investigation,” said Karmjit Singh, head constable posted at the Barnala city police station. Five arrested with illicit liquor, pills

Bathinda: The police have arrested five persons with illicit liquor, intoxicant pills and poppy husk from separate places while three persons managed to escape. In the first incident, the Canal Colony police recovered 38 boxes of illicit liquor from a Honda City car at a naka at T-point on the Badal road. The police arrested one accused who has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Bhairoopa village, while two accused, Ramandeep Singh and Bunty Singh, residents of the same village, managed to escape. Investigating officer Balwant Singh said when they signaled the accused to stop the car (DL-6CS-2826), after which two accused escaped, while the police arrested Gurpreet Singh. On the other hand, the Thermal police recovered 24 bottles of illicit liquor from Kheta Singh Basti. Accused Japan Singh escaped. All four accused have been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. On the other hand, the Sangat police arrested Sahib Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Darshan Singh with two kgs of poppy husk from Burj Kahan Singh Wala village. The Sangat police arrested Surjeet Singh, a resident of Faridkot Kotli village, with 260 intoxicant pills from his house. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act. TNS
