Only 27.24% students pass in six technical diploma courses

BATHINDA: In another setback for the state government after Class X and XII results, students have performed poorly in six technical diploma courses in various polytechnic institutes in the state.

In another setback for the state government after Class X and XII results, students have performed poorly in six technical diploma courses in various polytechnic institutes in the state.

Only 27.24 per cent have been able to pass the examinations. The results of 12 per cent students are late while more than 60 per cent have got reappear in the results recently announced by the Punjab State Technical Education Board, Chandigarh.

The courses in which students of final year have performed poorly are textile processing and textile technology (knitting) at Government Textile, Chemistry and Knitting Institute, Ludhiana, and textile design, textile technology (weaving), textile technology (spinning), textile technology (knitting) and textile technology at Punjab Institute of Textile Technology, Amritsar.

At Government Textile, Chemistry and Knitting Institute, Ludhiana, 25 students of the fifth semester in textile technology (knitting) course appeared for the examinations but no one has been able to pass. As many as 23 students have got reappear while results of three students are late.

At Punjab Institute of Textile Technology, Amritsar, 29 students of the sixth semester in textile technology stream appeared for the examination, of whom only one has passed while 27 students have got reappear and the result of one student is late.

In the result of the fifth semester in the same stream, 28 students appeared for the examinations, of whom only two have passed while 25 students have got reappear and the result of one student result is late.

In the textile design course, of the 20 students, only three have passed in the fifth semester. In all, of 334 students, 203 have got reappear.

Recently, the Department of Technical Education announced the Chief Minister Scholarship scheme for Government Polytechnic Institutes to charge less fees from students with high marks in Class X and ITI students.
