People lend a helping hand to poor family

BATHINDA: A day after the house of Rajinder Mandal and Ranjana Devi was gutted following a short-circuit and a leakage from an LPG cylinder, people have extended them a helping hand.

A day after the house of Rajinder Mandal and Ranjana Devi was gutted following a short-circuit and a leakage from an LPG cylinder, people have extended them a helping hand.

The incident occurred yesterday in the area of 25-yard houses in Dhobiana Basti.

Financer Balkaran Brar, a resident of Ajit Road, provided ration to the family for the next 15 days. He also assured them of providing clothes and some cash.

Dr Kashish of the local unit of an NGO, Sarbat da Bhalla, today sent a representative to assess the cost of the construction of one room. The NGO has promised to construct a room for the poor family. The entire belongings of the family, clothes, savings, electronic items and a cellphone, were gutted in the fire.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ghanshyam Thori also promised to help them out. The DC said he would look into the case and had already asked the secretary of the Red Cross to assess the situation and inform the administration that how it could help them.
