Bathinda, February 19

A woman of Talwandi Sabo today accused the Talwandi Sabo police of not taking action against her husband, who allegedly assaulted her with a sharp-edged weapon and attempted to kill her by throwing her from the roof of the house.

Addressing mediapersons at the Bathinda Press Club, victim Jatinder Kaur alleged that the Talwandi Sabo police had recorded her statement 16 days ago, but no action was initiated the police yet. Even she had Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla, who marked an enquiry to DSP (H) Surinder Kumar.

Jatinder Kaur alleged that when she went to meet DSP Surinder Kumar, he told her that he had pressure, so he could not do anything. She said she was left with no option but to go to Chandigarh to meet the Punjab DGP and filed a complaint in a court against her husband as well as the Bathinda police.

Ludhiana-based Jatinder Kaur, a private radiographer, was married to Nishan Singh 11 months ago. She alleged that her husband started assaulting her on night of January 31 and attempted to kill her twice by attempting to throw her from the roof and strangulate her. She alleged that her husband attacked her with sharp-edged weapons and injured her. She saved her life by locking herself from inside a room and called the police, but no policemen reached the spot.

Jatinder Kaur said her parents came to Talwandi Sabo and admitted her in the Civil Hospital on February 2. She alleged her both brothers-in-law were in Punjab police and using their clout to avoid action against her husband. She demanded strict action against her husband from senior police officials. DSP (H) Surinder Kumar said there was no pressure on the police. A probe has been under way and action will be taken as per law, he said.
