PRTC wakes up to blocked sewer pipes at bus stand

The PRTC authorities seem to have finally woken up to the perennial problem of blocked sewerage at the bus stand and have initiated talks with the Municipal Corporation (MC) to repair it at the earliest.

The Bathinda Tribune had highlighted the problem on various occasions in the past.

According to information, the wall of the open urinals will be demolished to facilitate entry of MC vehicles for clearing the blocked sewerage.

Earlier, the MC machinery didn’t have access to the congested area. Finding themselves in a fix, the PRTC authorities had earlier restricted the supply of water on the bus stand premises.

A PRTC official, on condition of anonymity, said, “Due to the continuous blockage of sewer pipes for the past many years, the wall and floor of urinals were damaged.”

An MC official, who did not wish to be named, said, “Many a time, we had intimated PRTC officials regarding the problem of space due to which we were not been able to clean the blocked sewer pipes. Finally, they have agreed to demolish the wall. The problem will be resolved soon.”

Surender Singh, general manager, PRTC, said, “Today, PRTC and MC officials visited the spot and planned about the demolition of the wall to facilitate the repair work.”

On the other hand, commuters and shopkeepers at the bus stand said they had to suffer for long due to the lax attitude of the authorities.

Kamal Kumar, a shopkeeper, said, “To avoid water accumulation in and around the city bus stand, many a time, the PRTC authorities snapped the water supply to booths, due to which people had no option but to purchase packaged drinking water.”
