DECLAMATION:An inter-college quiz competition was organised at the SSD Women’s Institute of Technology here today.



An inter-college quiz competition was organised at the SSD Women’s Institute of Technology here today. As many as 18 students from various classes were selected on the basis of a written test conducted in the first phase. Thereafter, as many as eight students were selected for the final round. Questions related to general knowledge were asked from the participants. Besides, visual and observation rounds were also included in the competition. The audience also asked questions from the participants. Ashina Chugh of BBA-II and Prabhnoor Kaur of BCA-I won the competition. President Somnath Baghla, secretary Ajay Gupta and administration secretary Vikas Kumar Garg congratulated the students. The competition was organised with the support of principal Manisha Bhatnagar. Kamna Rawat, Navdeep Kaur and Navjot Kaur were quiz coordinators. 

Spring festival

A spring festival was organised at Punjabi University Campus, Maur, here today. The college organised the festival with an aim to encourage and bring out the hidden talent of the students. Students actively participated in various competitions during the fest, including quiz, programming, mehendi application, kite making, rangoli making, folk song, carrom and badminton. Students of BCom and MBA also showcased their business management skills by arranging stalls. Campus principal Mohinder Singh Sidhu appreciated the efforts made by the staff and students in making the event a success. Dr Sidhu emphasised that these types of events help in searching the hidden talent and instilling confidence among the students.

Declamation, poetry competitions

The Arya Samaj Committee of DAV College, Bathinda, organised declamation and poetry competitions on the college premises here today. The topic of the competitions was ‘Let’s Make the World a Better Place’. Students of the college participated enthusiastically in the competitions and came up with many thought provoking ideas. They expressed vehemently on the vices prevailing in society through their speeches and poetries. Kamal Kant of BA III bagged the first position while Nikita of MA II won the second position. The winners were awarded prizes and participants were given bags. Principal Sanjeev Sharma and vice-principal Varesh Gupta congratulated the winners. The principal appreciated the efforts of the committee members — Prof Satish Grover, Prof Kuldeep Kaur and Prof Atul Singla and finely nuanced outpourings of the students. He said such programmes help in unleashing the creativity of the students.Prof Satish Grover conducted the stage meticulously. The programme was adjudged by Prof Kuldeep Kaur, Prof Veerpal kaur and Prof Baljinder Kaur.

Sports-cum-athletics meet 

The two-day fifth annual sports-cum-athletics meet of the Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda, commenced on its premises here today. Former Indian hockey captain Rajpal Singh was the chief guest on the first day of the meet. It began at 9 am with a march past by students of the university. Thereafter, the students and faculty members took an oath, pledging to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship in them. Prof RK Kohli, Vice-Chancellor, CUP, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries. In his address, he said organising a sports meet was important for instilling a sense of discipline and belongingness among the students. He said sports were a vital part of every student’s life and students should give equal importance as they give to academics. Sports help students to learn values of life, he added. Various track and field events were also organised. In the girls’ category, Arti won the 50m race while Komal finished second and Suman stood third. In the boys’ category, Abhishek won the 100m race while Wasim finished second and Mir Yusuf stood third. Besides, various other sports events, including 50 m race for the female staff, 80 m race for the male staff, shot put and other fun games, were organised on the first day of the meet.  — TNS
