Bathinda, December 8

Hundreds of SAD workers today staged a dharna in different parts of the district to lodge their protest against the alleged atrocities by Congressmen and “registration of false cases” against Akali leaders.

The protest was led by former Akali minister Sikandar Singh Maluka in Rampura Phul where the protesters blocked the Bathinda-Barnala road.

Former SAD MLA Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu led the Akali workers in a protest outside the Talwandi Sabo police station.

They were protesting against the registration of a “false case” against the local unit chief of the Youth Akali Dal.

The protest came to an end after SAD served a two-day ultimatum on the police to withdraw the case.

Similarly, Akali workers led by former MLA Darshan Kotfatta blocked traffic at Jassi Chowk on the Bathinda-Mansa road here this morning.

Commuters had a tough time while travelling in the district as they were forced to take link roads inside villages to reach their destinations.

The blockade lasted for around a couple of hours though the activists continued their protest till the evening.

In the neighbouring Mansa district, the Akali workers blocked road traffic on the Mansa-Patiala road in Bhikhi.
