Bathinda, January 12

Under the banner of the Theka Mulazim Sangharsh Morcha, members of the Water Supply and Sanitation Workers Union from Bathinda and Mansa today staged a protest against the orders of the government terminating the services of employees working for several years.

They also burnt an effigy of the state government.

Bathinda unit president Sandeep and Mansa unit president Jasvir Singh said while the state government had announced that 27,000 employees working on a contractual basis would be regularised, the Water Supply and Sanitation Department had issued a notice announcing termination of services of several employees who had been working since a long.

Threatening to intensify their stir, the protesters demanded that the notice be recalled or the union members would not be left with any option but to boycott the SAD-BJP ruling alliance in the Assembly elections.

They also announced that they would participate in the state-level convention in Moga on January 15.
