The Education Department has decided to observe the World No Tobacco Day on May 15.The Director General of School Education(DGSE) has given school heads and teachers the responsibility of making students aware of the ill effects of consuming tobacco and tobacco based products.

In a communique sent to the school heads, the DGSE has directed the schools to organise special programmes from May 1 to May 15 to ensure that students know about the affects of tobacco products.

As part of the fortnightly events, the schools may organise athletics competitions, essay writing, slogan writing and poster making competitions for students of secondary and higher secondary classes. The competitions aim at motivating the students to follow a healthy lifestyle and say no to any kind of habit forming substance.

During special morning assembly in schools, the students will be told about the problem of drug addiction.
