Schoolteacher seriously hurt in snatching bid

AMRITSAR: A school teacher was critically injured when unknown snatchers snatched her purse.

A school teacher was critically injured when unknown snatchers snatched her purse. She was travelling by an auto-rickshaw. She fell down from the moving auto-rickshaw and sustained injuries on her face, head, a shoulder and other parts of the body. She was admitted to a private hospital where her condition is stated to be serious.

The vicitim’s sister, Neena Bajaj, a resident of the Gilwali gate area, stated to the police that the victim, Nidhi Bajaj was a teacher in Holy Heart Presidency School on Loharka Road on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road. She said she was travelling in an auto-rickshaw and reached near the power house near the Hall gate when two motorcycle-borne youths snatched her purse. She resisted their attempt and while doing this, she fell from the auto-rickshaw. The bike-borne persons dragged her to a distance till she could not hold her purse. She sustained a serious head injury and was immediately rushed to a private hospital where her condition is stated to be serious. Nidhi’s purse contained two mobile phones besides other valuables, said Neena.

Following the incident, the Civil Lines police have registered a case under Sections 379-B, 323, 324 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials were searching the area to find any closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident or the snatchers. However, till now, there was no breakthrough in the case.

Meanwhile, in another incident, unidentified robbers snatched Rs 7,000 cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a person identified as Raj Kumar. He was returning from Grewal Farms on the Tarn Taran road with his friend on the scooter when three unknown persons came from behind and intercepted them near a dhaba. He said the suspects also snatched two of his mobile phones, 30 gm of gold , four ATM cards, etc. The police have registered a case under Section 379-B, Indian Penal Code (IPC), in this regard.
