Residents of various areas in the trans railway line area are irked over the development done by Mayor Balwant Rai Nath in the area where he stays at Sanjay Nagar, while other nearby areas are suffering due to lack of sanitation and the sewerage overflow problem.

Residents claim that it is common to see sewage stagnating at Sanjay Nagar and Bangi Nagar because of poor construction of sewage chambers and frequent blockage in the pipelines. Even the water supply is also an issue of concern here.

Rekha, area resident said stagnant sewerage water and foul smell coming from it is a serious problem as it make difficult to breathe for them and it also poses serious threat of outbreak of diseases in the area. She said we have lodged complaint regarding this issue repeated but this issue has not been resolved. She demanded that they want permanent solution to this problem.

Vikas Kumar, city resident said “We appeal to officials of the MCB that the residents should be provided with the basic amenities at the earliest so that they can live their life with dignity.

SAD Municipal Councilor from ward number 38, Santosh Mahant said Mayor had done all the development in his area only, but their ward has been totally ignored.

Independent turned Congress councilor from ward number 35 in Sanjay Nagar area, Sanjay Biswal said Awa basti in his area don’t have any water supply and they are dependent on groundwater or water supply through to water tankers to them.

Bathinda Tribune today visited the trans railway line area and was shocked to see that Sanjay Nagar main road leading to Mayor residence has very nicely laid and even trees have planed and new footpaths have been made along both sides of the road. Even street lights have also been installed on this road.

While, in other nearby areas interlocking tiles have been laid, but stagnant sewerage water shows the picture of neglect. Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said there is no biased attitude regarding development works as whole area where sewerage has been laid, the new roads or interlocking tiles have been laid and whole area has been changed.

The area where work is still left it is because as after congress comes to the power, the state government called back the funds available with them for the development works. Even this sewerage overflow problem is there as this sewerage problem is still in progress and has not been completed.
