Municipal Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal has issued show-cause notice to the councillor from Ward Number 11, Harjinder Shinda, over illegally encroaching on a house in the Model Town area of the city.

In the letter, the commissioner has asked the councillor to clear his status over the issue.

It is written that he has received a letter from the Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) dated January 25, 2018.

Even in a letter written to the Municipal Commissioner by the estate officer of the Bathinda Development Authority (BDA) it is stated that a few residents had lodged a complaint on September 15, 2017.

They had alleged that councilor Harjinder Singh had illegally encroached on the house in the Model Town area.

They had asked that the illegal possession should be vacated and the membership of the councilor should be cancelled for encroaching on land.

Further, they have stated that councillor Harjinder Singh Shinda had illegally encroached on a house owned by the BDA in the Model Town area.

To disown him, the office is taking action separately, they said.

MCB commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal said, “We have issued a show-cause notice to councillor Harjinder Shinda, after which action will be taken as per law in this matter.”

While talking to Bathinda Tribune, councilor Harjinder Shinda accused Congress leaders of doing vendetta politics.

He said Congress leaders pressured him to join their party as they wanted to change the mayor, but he refused as he stood by SAD leader Sarup Chand Singla and Mayor Balwant Rai Nath.

Further, he said the Congress leaders had threatened him to vacate the house claiming that he was staying illegally in his house.

Last year too, the BDA had initiated a process to take action against councillor Harjinder Shinda over the same issue, but the SAD leadership headed by SAD leader Sarup Chand Singla had held a press conference after which the issue was kept on back burner.
