Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bathinda, Naveen Singla today listened to the grievances and suggestions of the listeners in the studio of the local station of the All India Radio during a live phone-in show, “Gallaan Cho Gall”.

Singla was the guest at the show during which he not only listened to the grievances and suggestions of the radio listeners, but also assured quick action to redress them. The show was hosted by the Station Director of the AIR, Rajeev Arora.

Singla disclosed that though he had got the 28th All India rank in the civil services exam, instead of opting for the IAS, he opted for the police service and was allotted the Punjab cadre, because he wanted to serve the nation in uniform.

On the lynching incident at Bhagi Vandar village, the district police chief asserted that the incident was the outcome of a rivalry between two groups which culminated in the killing of a youth though he accepted that the deceased was a drug peddler facing trial for various offences.

A female caller lodged a strong protest against the alleged humiliation at the hands of the police personnel for covering her face with dupatta, while driving on two-wheelers. Another lady caller complained that the common people always face difficulties in getting FIRs registered at the police stations.

The lackadaisical attitude of the police in uploading the copies of FIRs on the police website was also brought to the notice of the SSP.

Naveen Singla admitted that junior police officials need some sensitisation and briefings which is being done. Besides, the fitness of the police personnel is his top priority for which he has started the practice of Monday parade of the district police and a special campaign has been launched for the health check-up of cops.
