Bathinda, August 10

A car was damaged by stray cattle in Ballaram Nagar locality of the city on Tuesday night and a similar incident was reported last night at Veer Colony when two stray cattle damaged two cars while fighting with each other.

Victim Ravinder Bajaj, a resident of the locality, said his car was damaged by stray cattle outside his house. He said earlier too his car was damaged stray cattle.

He alleged that the Bathinda Municipal Corporation was not making serious efforts to solve the stray cattle menace and demanded that the administration should work towards it.

The situation is getting worse due to the increasing number of stray animals in the city.

Bathinda was the first city in the state to impose cow cess, but the problem continues to persist.

Jugraj Singh, councillor from Ward No. 37, said the MC had failed to resolve the stray cattle menace in the city. He demanded that it was a serious issue and should be resolved at the earliest as many residents had lost their lives and injured in the past

Jeet Singh, a resident, blamed dairy farmers for the problem. He alleged that dairy farmers discarded them to fend for themselves once they stopped giving milk or became infertile.

Kalyan Sharma, a resident, said the Municipal Corporation had not done little to tackle the stray cattle menace. He said every councillor should provide space in their respective ward to shelter stray cattle and the MC should give funds to feed stray cattle.

Mayor Balwant Roy Nath said the MC campaign to catch stray cattle was under way and assured that the results would be visible within a few days.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier the Mayor had constituted a committee of 13 councillors to resolve this menace, but councillors showed no interest and not even a single meeting in this regard was called by the committee members.

This reveals how serious the municipal councillors are towards resolving this serious problem.
