Students of Government Rajindra College, who were prevented from sitting for re-appear examinations due to confusion over their roll numbers, today approached the police to solve the matter.

The students had raised the issue yesterday after they were asked to leave the exam hall in the middle of the examination as their roll numbers were same as those given to some regular semester students.

The students had then staged a protest and even approached the college principal, Jyoti Prakash. The college is, however, yet to fix the responsibility for the mistake.

“As per the norm, the students have to fill the re-appear forms, submit the same with the university, along with the fee, themselves. The students, however, have been taking the help of the clerical staff of the college for doing so. We are not sure about who is responsible as the names of one of our clerks and a class IV employee are being dragged into the case,” the principal said.

He added that this morning, he had asked the students to give him a written complaint and also mention their names and contact details, along with the roll numbers, which were assigned to them.

“I assured them that the case would go to the Shikayat Nivaran Committee and after a detailed inquiry into the matter, action will be taken against those responsible. They didn’t come to me and instead went to the police,” the principal said.

ASI Jaskaran Singh of the bus stand police post said the students had brought the matter to them but the college principal assured that an internal inquiry would be conducted before action is taken.

Meanwhile, the students cried foul as following the confusion over their roll numbers, they have been barred from taking the examinations.

“If we fail to appear for the exam this time, we will have to wait for one more year. Due to the clerical error on the part of the college or the university, we are suffering,” the students said.

Agreeing that the problem was serious, the principal also said that the students would have to indeed wait for an entire year to clear the examinations.
