Students, residents come together to celebrate Int’l Yoga Day

Bathinda, June 21

The 3rd International Yoga Day was celebrated with zeal at various places, including schools and colleges, in the city. Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, also observed the day. Around 475 students of the GZSCCET and other neighbouring institutions, faculty, staff and their families participated in the event under the inspiring theme ‘Let’s join together with love and peace’.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Mohan Paul Singh Ishar gave good wishes to all participants and appreciated the idea of executing such an inspiring event on the university premises.

Yog guru Acharya Radhey Shyam Bansal conducted the yoga session. He apprised students of how ‘pranayama’ and meditations could improve their concentration level. The chairman of the Yog Sewa Samiti (regd),Bathinda, Dr Gosain urged the students to get closer to the nature and exercise regularly to keep themselves fit and healthy. The enriching session was followed by a light refreshment for the participants.

Students told about benefits of yoga

To promote health, harmony and peace, DAV College, Bathinda, observed International Yoga Day today.

Ganesh Dutt, a yoga instructor, helped the gathering practise yoga asanas. Swami Surya Dev talked about benefits of yoga and adopting it in lifestyle.

Principal Sanjeev Sharma said yoga was not about exercise but to discover sense of oneness with one’s own self. Students of various departments such as NSS, NCC, physical education, youth welfare department, along with the staff and the faculty of college, attended the day with gaiety.

Importance of yoga in focus

To mark International Yoga Day, an event was held today at SSD Girls’ College. It was organised under the instructions of Col Aseem Tandon, 4PB Girls NCC BN Patiala’s commanding officer. The event was organised by ANO (Lt) Savita Gupta in which NCC cadets participated enthusiastically.

In the programme, NK Yadav was the yoga Instructor who motivated students to practise yoga. He told them about the importance of yoga in the busy schedule of routine life.

He said yoga was necessary for the proper functioning of the mind as well as the body. In the event, various asanas were performed.

College Principal Dr Parminder Kaur Tanghi inspired the students by telling them the value of yoga in their lives. The college management also appreciated the NCC cadets.

Celebrations on university campus

Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, celebrated International Yoga Day on its campus today. Staff and students from the constituent colleges of the university actively participated in the programme.

Prof Satpal Singh, a yoga trainer, demonstrated various yoga asanas on a raised platform in front of the staff and the students.

Vice-Chancellor Col Dr BS Dhaliwal said yoga would help in the overall development and well being of all. He congratulated all present for the celebrations and specially lauded the efforts of the University College of Physical Education for organising such a useful programme.

102 cadets take part in celebrations

RB DAV School celebrated the International Yoga day today where over 102 NCC cadets participated with zeal. Along with students of the host school, students from Model School, Canal Colony, Bathinda; Government High School, Jhumba; and Teona Anandsagar School, Kaursinghwala; took part in the event.

Swami Suryadev was the chief guest. Vice-chairman of the school KK Nohria motivated the students. Principal of the school Pramod Khursija said practising yoga was beneficial for health.

Students perform Yoga asanas

The 3rd International Yoga Day was also celebrated at KV-5, Bathinda Cantt with fervour. Principal Mohinder Singh highlighted the importance of yoga in daily life. Various yoga asanas were perfomed by staff and students under the supervision of PT teacher Kusumlata. She also told the gathering about benefits of yoga.

Camp at Verka milk plant

Verka today celebrated the 3rd International Yoga Day by conducting a one-day yoga camp at the Verka milk plant here. Emphasising on the regular practise of yoga in the daily life, Milkfed MD Manjit Brar said: “Yoga is essential for holistic mental and physical well being. It is the best way to stay healthy, combat diseases and beat stress.” All participants were given a glass of warm milk after the yoga session.
