Two booked for Rs 60 lakh fraud

MANSA: The police have booked two residents of Jaipur for duping a Mansa resident of Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of helping him open a medicine wholesale shop here.

Mansa, May 21

The police have booked two residents of Jaipur for duping a Mansa resident of Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of helping him open a medicine wholesale shop here.

Jagtar Singh of Jawaharke village said his friend motivated him to take up dealership of a herbal medicine manufacturing company.

“After I showed interest, my friend made me meet Sunil Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar, both residents of Jaipur. The duo claimed that they owned a medicine manufacturing company and asked me to be the exclusive dealer of their medicines in Mansa,” said Jagtar.

He added that Sunil and Sanjeev asked for Rs 60 lakh from him. Jagtar gave Rs 40 lakh to the duo last year by taking a loan from his relatives and friends.

“On September 17 last year, I went to Jaipur and gave them the remaining Rs 20 lakh. They then gave me two cheques for Rs 30 lakh each as a security against the cash that I had given them,” he said.

“Excited about his new venture, Jagtar even took a shop on rent and kept waiting for the medicines, which the duo said were to be made at their factory in Hanumangarh. Over the last two-three months, the duo began evading my queries pertaining to the delivery of medicines. Fed up with their attitude, I planned to pull out of the initiative, but to my shock, the two cheques were dishonoured,” he said.

Jagtar then submitted a written complaint to the Mansa SP following which the economic offences wing conducted an inquiry into the case and found Jagtar’s claims to be true.

A case has been registered against the duo at the Kotdharmu police station. — TNS
