Ujjwala scheme: 3K gas connections distributed

BATHINDA: Following the directions of the Central government, as many as 3,000 gas connections were distributed among the beneficiaries under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan in the district.

Following the directions of the Central government, as many as 3,000 gas connections were distributed among the beneficiaries under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan in the district.

Many functions are being organsied at various places under the campaign, which started on April 14 and will end on May 5.

During a function at Nathana, MLA Pritam Singh Kotbhai addressed the gathering and elaborated on the details of the scheme.

ADC Sakshi Sahwney said as part of the scheme, Ujjwala Diwas was being celebrated across the district and gas connections were being distributed among the needy.

The ADC also urged the beneficiaries to avail the benefit of the scheme by getting themselves registered under the scheme. She also appealed to public to avail benefits of other government social welfare schemes.

On Friday, functions were organised at Deon, Rangpura, Beant Nagar, Pakka Kalan, Nandgarh Kotra, Alike, Guru Nanak Pura, mehraj, Bhai Bakhtaur, Jodhpur Pakhar, Gobindpura, Goniana Kalan, Pittho, Bhucho Khurd, Talwandi, Ballianwali, Bhagu, Budhlada, Kalyan Sukha, Sangat, Kotshamir, Teona, Goniana, Bir Talab, Raman, Balluana, Bhagta Bhaika, Jeeda, Chakk Fateh Singh Wala and Lehrathan.

10,77 benefitted in Mansa district

Under the ongoing Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, as many as 1,077 families were given LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme in Mansa district.

Speaking during a function, ADC (D) Gurmeet Singh Sidhu said the government was aiming to offer multiple benefits to the poor under this scheme.

“Besides distributing LPG connections, the government is also working to increase the income of farmers, creating more avenues for employment, encouraging people to keep cleanliness and strengthen the Panchayati Raj institutions,” he said.

The ADC (D) said the objective behind giving LPG connections was to eliminate the smoke of kitchen in every household so that people, especially women, could stay away from the ailments caused by smoke.

Urging people to get maximum benefit of the scheme, he said free demonstration had also been given to the families who are getting the LPG connection for the first time so that they come to know how to operate it.

Sidhu said 21 villages were selected in Mansa district to promote the scheme and all government employees and officers were toiling hard by holding camps in villages so that every household could get these connections.
