The local unit of the Unemployed Linemen Union, Punjab, convened a meeting of its members at Children’s Park here today. District president of the union Jagdeep Singh presided over the meeting.
Addressing the members, vice-president of the union Sema Singh said the unemployed linemen had a huge hope from the Congress government that it would provide employment to them but unfortunately, their hopes had been dashed.
“Following in the footsteps of the previous state government, the Congress government has also gave an advertisement announcing the recruitment of linemen against 1,500 posts while this number should have been 4,000,” he added.
The members of the union said the unemployed linemen had been protesting to get the earlier recruit
ment procedure completed. They said after that government should initiate the new recruitment procedure to fill the remaining vacant posts.
