Bathinda, April 15

Two teams of the Vigilance Bureau, Bathinda, conducted raids at Dhoorkot village and Phul town on Sunday morning following the arrest of constable Amritpal Singh and home guard jawan Sukhvir Singh in connection with a graft case.

Inspector Satnam Singh led the teams. The police have taken some documents in custody, but no incriminating material was recovered from both houses, according to Vigilance sources.

“It was a routine exercise. It was necessary to search the houses of the accused after their arrest,” said Satnam Singh.

Both Amritpal and Sukhvir are in police remand and will be produced in the court on Monday.

Head constable Baldev Singh is absconding and the Vigilance conducted raids for his arrest on Sunday.

His mobile is under surveillance and he will be arrested soon, added Satnam Singh.

A team of the Vigilance had on Saturday arrested Amritpal and Sukhvir, posted at the Phul police station, red-handed while taking Rs 12,000 in bribe from a passport applicant.

Jagsir Singh, a resident of Dhingar village in Rampura Phul subdivision, told the Vigilance officials that he had gone to the Phul police station for his passport verification as he had applied for it under the Tatkal scheme.

The complainant met the munshi, who allegedly demanded Rs 12,000 in bribe. — TNS
