BATHINDA:Children studying in schools affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) in Bathinda district fared poorly in the Class X examinations, the results of which were declared by the board today.

Children studying in schools affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) in Bathinda district fared poorly in the Class X examinations, the results of which were declared by the board today.

Out of 22 districts in the state, Bathinda stood 15th, with only 47.71 per cent students managing to clear the examinations. While Gurdaspur topped with 86.97 per cent pass percentage, only Muktsar, Jalandhar, Mansa, Fazilka, Barnala, SAS Nagar and Sangrur trailed behind Bathinda district. 

Nine on merit list, only one from city

While a total of 13,771 students had appeared for the examinations from Bathinda district, only 6,570 students managed to pass the examinations. Of these, only nine students could make it to the merit list released today. Out of the nine students, only one student belongs to the Bathinda city while the rest belong to rural parts of the district. With nine students on the merit list, Bathinda was placed 15th on the list for 22 districts. 

Girls outshine boys

This year too, girls of the district managed to outshine the boys. Of the total nine students who managed to grab a place on the merit list, eight are girls and only one is a boy. 

Karamdeep Kaur, a student of Shaheed Sipahi Darshan Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Kotfatta, topped the district and secured the state rank of 11 by scoring 97.23 per cent marks. Harpreet Kaur of Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Talwandi Sabo, secured 12th rank in the state and bagged the second rank in the Bathinda district by securing 97.08 per cent marks. Pradeep Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bhai Rupa, stood third in the district and at 18th position in the state with 96.15 per cent marks. 

Ranvir Singh, the only boy from Bathinda district and also the only student from the Bathinda city to make it to the merit list, is from Baba Farid Pubic Senior Secondary School, Bathinda. He secured the 19th rank in the state by scoring 96 per cent marks. Muskan Rani of Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Maur, scored 95.85 per cent marks, Anjali of Kasturi Lal Sarvahitkari Senior Secondary Vidya Mandir, Rampura Phul, scored 95.85 per cent marks, Kashish Aggarwal of Om Prakash Bachni Devi Sarvahitkari Senior Secondary Vidya Mandir, Maur, scored 95.54 per cent marks, Priyanka of Jai Tulsi Anuvrat Public School, Rampura Phul, scored 95.54 per cent marks and Nitisha of Om Prakash Bachni Devi Sarvahitkari Senior Secondary Vidya Mandir, Maur, scored 95.38 per cent marks. All these students made a place for themselves in the merit list. 

Topper believes in time management

District topper Karamdeep Kaur said time management was the key to her success. Celebrating her result with the school staff and parents, she said “Understanding the basics is very important and equally important is managing your time and taking every subject seriously. If one manages time properly, there is time for studies as well as for recreational activities,” she said, thanking her teachers for supporting her. 

Harpreet wants to break the stereotype

Aiming to break the stereotype that girls are not good at science and maths, Harpreet Kaur who secured the second position in district said, “I wish to pursue higher studies in mathematics. I aim to break the stereotype and become a maths lecturer as it is my favorite subject. To ace the examinations, I used to study for 10-12 hours every day and that helped me succeed.”
