Bathinda: A labourer was killed after he got stuck in a boiler belt at the BCL distillery located at Sangat Kalan village.



Bathinda: A labourer was killed after he got stuck in a boiler belt at the BCL distillery located at Sangat Kalan village. The Sangat police have registered a case against distillery engineer Vishal for negligence and have a search for him. The body has been handed over to the family members after conducting the post-mortem. Investigation officer ASI Kuldeep Singh said the deceased had been identified as Akashdeep, a resident of Machana village. The police have registered a case on the basis of the statement of his paternal uncle Krishan Singh. Krishan Singh has stated that he, along with his nephew Akashdeep, was working in the BCL distillery. Krishan Singh has alleged that Akashdeep was killed due to the negligence of the engineer as the latter had given wrong instructions that resulted in the tragedy.

Girl commits suicide

A girl committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. She was a resident of the Surakhpeer road area in Bathinda. The deceased has been identified as Priyanka, who was suffering from a disease and was mentally upset from some time. Her father Ambey Kumar, who is a labourer, told the police about the incident. The Canal Colony police have registered a case under Section 174 of the IPC.

Two booked for fraud

The Canal Colony police have booked two persons for duping Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Amarpura Basti, Bathinda. In a complaint was lodged by Ranjeet Singh, it has been stated that Kuljeet Singh, a resident of Amarpura Basti and Simranjeet Singh, a resident of Baba Nagar, Rajpura, had taken Rs 5 lakh over immigration related services. The Canal Colony police have registered a case against both accused under Sections 420, 34 and 24 of the Immigration Act.

1 held with illicit liquor

The police have registered three cases the Under Excise Act. In the first case, The Nathana police have recovered six bottles of illicit liquor while the accused managed to run away. The Nathana police have registered case against Binder Singh, a resident of Sema Village. The Dialpura police have recovered 30 litres of illicit liquor but again the accused ran away from the spot. A case has been registered against Labh Singh, a resident of Maluka. The Sangat police have arrested Jagtar Singh, a resident of Pakka with 11 bottles of illicit liquor from Chak Ruldu Wala village. He has been booked under the Excise Act. — TNS

Event for mothers at DPS

Bathinda: Mother's Day was celebrated at Delhi Public School with great pomp and show. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Shivani from Delhi Hospital. Students of classes I to III showed their love and respect to their mothers through melodious songs and dance performances. Modelling by little wonders stole the show. Games like balloon bursting, dupatta tying and tambola were played by the mothers. Shweta and Neelam were chosen as lucky mothers. The event ended with the performance of bhangra by young dancers. Principal Dr Arun Jee congratulated all mothers and appreciated the children and teachers for their efforts. TNS

Students on merit list

Bathinda: Two students of the SSD Women's Institute of Technology brought laurels to the institution by securing their place on the merit list of Punjabi University, Patiala. In BCA-II, Arshdeep Kaur bagged the sixth position in the university with 80.8 per cent marks and Anchal Rani attained the seventh position with 80.3 per cent. Somnath Baghla, Ajay Gupta, Vikas Kumar Garg and Manisha Bhatnagar and other faculty members congratulated the students and their parents for their achievement. TNS

Pritpal bags gold in wushu

Bathinda: Pritpal Singh, a Class XII student of Baba Farid Senior Secondary School, has won a gold medal in the first Punjab State Kung Fu Wushu Cup held in Amritsar recently. Similarly, Lovedeep Singh, Ashish Avghade and Shivpreet Singh, all Class XII students of BFSSS, bagged silver medals in the championship. The BFSSS also won the overall trophy of the championship. Baljinder Singh, principal, BFSSS, appreciated the efforts of the winners and congratulated them on their achievement. Dr Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chairman, BHGI, also congratulated the school principal, staff, sports in-charge and winners. Expressing his happiness, Dr Dhaliwal said the students had highlighted the name of organisation at the state level with their performance. TNS

City boy  selected for hockey camp

Bathinda: City hockey player Gurshahzad Singh has been selected for the Junior Men National Coaching camp to be held in Bengaluru from May 24 to June 30. Gurshahzad Singh (16) is a student of Delhi Public School, Bathinda. He has played nationals for five times. He was also a part of All India Nehru Gold Cup U-17 winning side. The national probables for the camp were selected during the 7th Junior National Hockey India Championship 2017 for Men and Women held in Bhopal recently. Hockey coach Rajwant Singh said it was great that players from small towns had been making it to the nationals. TNS 

Four booked for assault

Bathinda: The Civil Lines police have booked Gurdeep Singh, president of a truck union, along with three others for assault. Munish Kumar, a resident of Baba Farid Nagar, said Gurdeep Singh and Ram Singh with two others assaulted him. A case under Sections 324 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused.TNS
