The 10-year-old girl, who delivered a baby in August after being raped by two of her uncles, will get a total of Rs 15 lakh as compensation.
The Supreme Court had earlier announced Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the victim and the District Legal Services Authority today announced Rs 5 lakh more. The victim has received Rs 1 lakh while Rs 9 lakh is to be kept in the form of a fixed deposit.
The victim’s pregnancy came to light when she was already 32-week pregnant and abortion was not possible. She gave birth to a baby girl on August 17, who was taken to ‘Ashiana’. A couple from Maharashtra got to know about the child through the website of the Central Adoption Resource Authority and adopted it last week.
The 10-year-old was raped multiple times by her two maternal uncles. On November 2, a local court sentenced the duo to life imprisonment till the remainder of their natural lives. They were also told to pay a fine of Rs 3.05 lakh each, out of which Rs 3 lakh was compensation to the victim. The court had also issued directions to the DLSA to consider enhancement in the compensation.
