Senior adviser to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh Lt Gen TS Shergill (retd), who is also vice-president of the state government’s flagship scheme Guardians of Governance (GoGs), on Monday said the main aim of GoGs was to instil a sense of responsibility and honesty in the common man as well as government officers and employees so that benefits of various schemes could be provided to the beneficiaries.

Shergill on Monday convened a meeting of district administration officials and 167 GoGs. He said in the first phase of the scheme, a total of 151 GoGs had been deputed in the district.

“For the past two and a half months, these guardians are working with the district administration to solve problems of people at the grassroots level in a commendable way,” he said.

Lt Gen Shergill said the GoGs were keeping an eye on around 20 various schemes of the government. Independent reports of these schemes were being sent to the Chief Minister’s Office through a computer application, the data of which was sent to the control room, he added.

“The CM himself monitors the entire project and the deputy commissioners concerned get the information about the same. It has also enabled people at the grassroots level to give their feedback on the scheme. The main objective of GoGs is to control corruption, ensure proper use of grants and benefits reach the actual beneficiaries,” Lt Gen Shergill added.
