18 held for gambling

Zirakpur: As many as 18 persons have been arrested for gambling and recovered Rs 1.9 lakh from their possession. Officials of the CIA wing, Mohali, said on a tip-off, they conducted a raid in the basement of a shop at Rampur Kalan village near Zirakpur and nabbed the accused red-handed while they were gambling. A pack of cards and Rs 1.9 lakh in cash were recovered from them.

A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against the accused at the Zirakpur police station. Further probe in the case was on, the police said. — OC
