Chandigarh, February 13

A court has held an 18-year-old youth guilty of abducting and raping a minor. Dhanas resident Asif Khan was arrested after a complaint was filed by the father of a 14-year-old girl. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on February 15.

The incident dates back to March 11, 2016, when a complaint was received by the police alleging that Asif Khan had abducted and raped a 14-year-old girl.

As per the FIR, the victim’s father, who filed the complaint, grew suspicious of Asif and claimed his daughter had been raped by him. A case under Sections 376 and 363 of the IPC and Sections 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act was registered against him.

However, while recording her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC in the court, the victim narrated that it was during a birthday party that she had gone to the convict’s house where she was served cake by the convict’s father. However after having the cake, she felt dizzy and claimed to remain intoxicated by it for three days. When she was standing outside the convict’s house on the third day, she was allegedly abducted and then raped.

Defence counsel claimed that the two were known to each other and were in a relationship. However, the court held the accused guilty after hearing the arguments.
