18-yr-old gets 7-year jail for minor’s rape

CHANDIGARH:A local court has sentenced an 18-year-old youth to seven years in imprisonment for abducting and raping a minor.

Chandigarh, February 16

A local court has sentenced an 18-year-old youth to seven years in imprisonment for abducting and raping a minor. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict.

The incident dates back to March 11, 2016, when the police received a complaint from the victim’s father, who alleged that Dhanas resident Asif Khan had abducted and raped his 14-year-old daughter.

Asif was arrested under Sections 376 and 363 of the IPC and Sections 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act.

The defence counsel claimed that the two were in a relationship.  However, the court held Asif Khan guilty after hearing the arguments. — TNS
