Chandigarh: Two youths, natives of Haryana, were arrested by the Chandigarh Police for creating a ruckus and breaking the windowpane of a car in Sector 22 on Sunday night.



Chandigarh: Two youths, natives of Haryana, were arrested by the Chandigarh Police for creating a ruckus and breaking the windowpane of a car in Sector 22 on Sunday night. Both were reportedly in an inebriated condition. According to the police, the complainant in the case, Sonu Dhiman, a resident of Sector 22, was reversing his car while the two accused, Ashok Kumar and Ramandeep, were standing behind it. Dhiman started blowing the horn following which the accused got agitated and entered into an altercation with him. The duo smashed the windowpane of the car. Local residents gathered at the spot and the police were informed about the incident. The youths were rounded up by the police. Later, they were arrested under preventive measures and a case was registered at the Sector 17 police station. TNS

Stray dog bites man

Dera Bassi: A man in mid-50s sustained injuries on his forehead and hand after he was allegedly bitten by a stray dog at a filling station in Dhanauni village. The victim, Ram Sarup, a resident of Mohalla Rauni, Dera Bassi, had gone to fill petrol in his Activa scooter. He walked to a tap on the premises to have water when the dog attacked him and bit him on his hand and forehead. The victim raised the alarm following which workers present there came to his rescue. The victim was taken to a private hospital. OC

Polythene bags seized

Chandigarh: Approximately 10 kg non-woven carry bags and polythene bags were seized  during  raids carried  out under the supervision of  Kriti Garg, SDM (South), Chandigarh. The  seized materials  have been sent for disposal  at the garbage processing plant.   The  anti-polythene drive was conducted in the Market Area of Sector 32 and Sector 35. During the drive, 18 challans amounting to Rs 36,000  were issued to users/defaulters. TNS

One-way traffic in Sec 26 market

Chandigarh: The UT Administration is going to make one-way traffic in the Sector 26 grain market. Sources said while three points at the grain market will be used for entry, the fourth point will be used for exit. The concept of one-way traffic will be introduced on trial basis for the next three days starting from Wednesday. The traffic on Sector 33/45 has also been made one way. TNS

Woman’s body found 

Panchkula: The body of a 26-year-old woman, working in a Sector 8-based salon, was found hanging in a park at Sector 5 on Monday. As per information, Laxmi, a resident of New Indira Colony, Chandigarh, had gone missing on Sunday afternoon and her family members had lodged a missing complaint at the IT Park police station, Chandigarh. Morning walkers informed the Panchkula police about the body. The police contacted her family members through a mobile phone lying near the spot. The deceased kin said it was a murder. The police said the autopsy report had not ruled out any physical contact with the deceased before her death. Her viscera samples have been sent for testing. Luxmi’s brother Amit said she was a divorcee and was in a relationship with Praveen, who was working in a salon at Sector 20. She wanted to marry Praveen, but he was not ready. TNS

Purse snatched 

Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a purse from a woman in Sector 47. The purse contained Rs 3,000 cash and important documents.The woman, identified as Rani, a resident of Burail in Sector 45, was targeted near a gurdwara. The police said the victim had failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle.  A case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. TNS

Man booked for rash driving

Chandigarh: A Mohali resident has been booked for rash driving and causing hurt to a pedestrian in Sector 7. The accused was in an inebriated condition. According to the police, complainant Sanjay Garg, a resident of Sector 7, alleged that the accused identified as Joginder Singh, a resident of Rani Majra, Mohali district, was driving his Jeep recklessly  following which he signalled him to drive slow. The complainant alleged that the accused stopped his jeep a little ahead and when he went near the vehicle, the accused pushed him. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against the accused at the Sector 26 police station. Accused’s remand extended 

Panchkula: The Panchkula police  produced Gagandeep Singh, the alleged mastermind and prime accused in the murder of bouncer Amit Sharma, alias Meet, in the Panchkula district courts, which extended his remand by five days on Monday. The police submitted that they wanted to know the whereabouts of other accused involved in the murder. The Panchkula police had claimed 

that a total of seven persons were involved in Meet’s killing. To date, only three persons have been arrested. Another accused Dildar Singh is in Patiala. The Panchkula police had planned to take Dildar into custody after obtaining his production warrant. But sources revealed as his medical condition was not good, the police had not initiated the process. Meet was killed by two men on May 8.TNS
