PANCHKULA: A major tragedy was averted today after the driver of a Haryana Roadways bus lost control over it and hit an electricity pole on the Kalka- Shimla highway.

A major tragedy was averted today after the driver of a Haryana Roadways bus lost control over it and hit an electricity pole on the Kalka- Shimla highway. Two people, including an elderly woman, sustained injuries. There were 47 passengers in the bus. The pole fell on a stationary car. Three persons sitting in the car had a narrow escape.

The driver of the bus, Balraj Khan, claimed that the accident took place due to a sudden brake failure. However, the police informed that the bus was being driven at a high speed. Ganga Devi (66, one of the injured, sustained injuries on the face and legs and received treatment at the Civil Hospital in Sector 6.

The second injured, Gurvinder Singh, received 16 stitches. Hailing from Hoshiarpur, he was returning from Pinjore after appearing for a CRPF recruitment test. — TNS
