2 suicide incidents reported from city

CHANDIGARH: Two suicide incidents were reported from the city on Thursday.

Chandigarh, April 19

Two suicide incidents were reported from the city on Thursday. While a 38-year-old man hung himself in Sector 37, a newlywed woman hung herself in Khuda Ali Sher village.

The deceased, a father of two, has been identified as Sukhdev Singh, who was said to be an alcoholic. He had two daughters aged four and eight years. His 34-year-old wife had left him two days ago because of his drinking habits. At the time of the incident, Singh’s mother was present in the house along with his Sukhdev’s nephews.

Harsh (23), a nephew of the deceased, saw him hanging from a ceiling fan with a dupatta. He broke open the door to bring him down and informed the police about the same. As per information, Singh was drinking continuously for the past almost one week.

In another incident, a woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her sister’s farm house in Khuda Ali Sher village. She was married recently and her husband stays in Nayagaon. The victim was rushed to the GMSH-16 where doctors declared her brought dead. Inquest proceeding have been initiated at the Sector 11 police station. No suicide note was found from the spot.
