2 traffic cops assaulted, 1 held

CHANDIGARH: Two traffic personnel were assaulted by two persons in Sector 45 on August 14. According to the police, one of the victim, head constable Jitender Singh, who is posted in the traffic recovery van, in his complaint to the police stated that they had received information about traffic snarls near the scrap market in Burail, Sector 45, following which he along with other traffic staff reached the spot.

Two traffic personnel were assaulted by two persons in Sector 45 on August 14.

According to the police, one of the victim, head constable Jitender Singh, who is posted in the traffic recovery van, in his complaint to the police stated that they had received information about traffic snarls near the scrap market in Burail, Sector 45, following which he along with other traffic staff reached the spot.

The head constable started challaning wrongly parked vehicles that were obstructing the way. In the meantime, accused Rajesh Kumar and Sanjiv came and started arguing with the traffic police personnel.

The accused caught constable Anil Kumar by his collar. The accused also threatened the two police officials.

The police control room was informed about the incident after which a police team was rushed to the spot.

Later, Rajesh was arrested by the police.

A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.
