Chandigarh, August 16

Three youths were awarded seven-year jail term here today by a local court for robbing two persons of their valuables.

Amarjit Singh (22), Dalip (20), both residents of Mauli Jagran, and Banke Lal (28) of Zirakpur, were given seven-year sentence under Section 397 and two-year jail under Section 411 of the IPC. However, the two sentences will run concurrently. According to the police, the FIR was registered on the statement of Akhilesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 41, in which he stated that on November 8, 2016, he along with his friend Pankaj, was going to the railway station from Mauli Jagran in the afternoon. When he reached near Prachin Shiv Mandir in Mauli Jagran, they came there. Two of them put a knife on their neck and the third one took out mobile phone from his pocket and even took away his wrist watch. They also robbed Pankaj of his Aadhaar card and Rs 1,500. They warned them of dire consequences before fleeing away. The police said the victims told the investigating team that the trio were calling one another by name with the help of which they were identified. — TNS
