3 mobiles recovered from Burail jail inmate

CHANDIGARH: The Burial jail authorities on Friday recovered three mobile phones and SIM cards from the barrack of Rajan Bhatti, a notorious criminal.

The Burial jail authorities on Friday recovered three mobile phones and SIM cards from the barrack of Rajan Bhatti, a notorious criminal.

Sources said three mobile phones, including a smart phone, were recovered from the barrack number 10 in which Rajan Bhatti had been lodged.

Bhatti was under surveillance by the jail authorities following the inputs of him possessing mobile phones. After confirming the development, the jail staff conducted a search in the barrack and recovered the phones.

OP Mishra, IG Prisons, confirming the incident said an internal probe had been marked to establish how the inmate managed to procure the phones. “These mobile phones were recovered on the basis of jail intelligence,” the IG added.

The matter was reported to the Chandigarh police, following which a case against Bhatti was registered at the Sector 49 police station.

Bhatti is facing trial in several cases

The accused, Rajan Bhatti, son of a Punjab Police head constable, was arrested by the Chandigarh Police on May 16, 2015, from Sector 9, following a chase. He had then also fired into the air on seeing a police party following which a case was registered against him at the Sector 3 police station.

Later on, Bhatti managed to escape from the court premises on October 13, 2015, after he was produced in the court for the hearing in a rape case registered against him at the Sector 31 police station.

Bhatti’s girlfriend Poonam alias Pooja, Rajbir Singh, Sunny Sharma and Shubham Rathour had helped him flee from the police custody.

Bhatti was re-arrested by the Operation Cell of the UT Police on March 8, 2016, along with one of his accomplices. Two country-made pistols, a .32 bore revolver, 15 live cartridges and 15 gram heroin were also recovered from the accused.
