5-yr-old boy falls into drain, dies

A five-year-old boy died after he fell into a drain near his house here this afternoon. The boy was playing with two friends when he accidentally fell into the drain.

The deceased has been identified as Resham, a resident of Lalru.

Lehli chowki in-charge Amanpreet Brar said the incident occurred in the afternoon when Resham was playing with his two friends near his house in the presence of elders.

She said while playing, Resham stepped on to the lid of a manhole on the drain following which it tilted and he allegedly fell into the drain. Family members rushed him to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated into the matter.
