66 mm rain in 24 hrs; trees uprooted

A car was damaged in Sector 46 as a tree fell on it during a thunderstorm.

Chandigarh: High velocity winds, coupled with a thunderstorm, lashed the city on Saturday night. The city witnessed 66 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.

  • Besides waterlogging at several places, including Sector 15 and Mani Majra, trees were uprooted at several places.
  • The rain also brought down the mercury. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.7°, seven notches below the normal, the minimum hovered around 21.1°, four degrees below the normal.
  • Meanwhile, a car of a Sector 46 resident, Anil Sharma, was damaged after a tree fell on it. He alleged that despite bringing the matter regarding the precariously positioned tree to the notice of the horticulture authorities, they failed to act. He said he first submitted a complaint in the horticulture office in 2016, and later sent a reminder last year, but in vain. TNS
