8 challaned for water wastage in Mohali

MOHALI: The Mohali Municipal Corporation has issued 8 challans for violating its recent public notice regarding wastage of water.

The Mohali Municipal Corporation has issued 8 challans for violating its recent public notice regarding wastage of water.

On April 13, with a view to limiting wastage of water ahead of the approaching summers, the MC had issued a notice banning washing of cars, two-wheelers, other automobiles, verandah, flooring and house facing roads using a water pipe connected to taps from April 15 to June 30.

According to the directions of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department of the MC, residents can water their gardens and flower pots only after 5 pm during the 75-day period.

Harpreet Singh, SDO, MC, said three challans were issued on Tuesday and five challans were issued on Monday.

“Most of the fines were issued for watering flower pots and gardens after the stipulated timings,” he said.

Another official said all tickets issued so far were first-time offences, implying a fine of Rs 1,000.

Sources said some challans were issued by the public health department also, the data for which was unavailable and a detailed report would be prepared by the end of the week with penalties imposed for non-compliance.
