Mohali, June 25

A day after residents of the Danga Peerit (riot victims) Colony at Phase XI raised the banner of protest against the GMADA officials, who had reached the locality to get illegally occupied houses vacated, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) too extended it support to occupants of the houses.

Today, AAP’s Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu met residents of the colony and assured the party’s full support to them.

“Our party will stand by you. We are with you if any authority would try to evict you from your houses”, said Kanwar Sandhu to the residents.

He added that their government in Delhi supported the 1984 riot victims and extended support to them.

“It is wrong on the part of the government if they evicted them as they have been in the possession of the houses for almost 30 years. If still the authorities want to evict them from here, they should be given proper accommodations first,” said Sandhu adding that he would also take up the matter in Vidhan Sabha session.

It is to be noted that a high drama was witnessed on Saturday when a team of GMADA officials came to the colony to get as many as 42 houses vacated. The houses in the colony were allotted to those who had produced sufficient proofs of being victims of the 1984 riots. GMADA had issued notices to occupants of the houses prior to the officials’ visit.
