Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu today sought the intervention of Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra in the issue of accumulation of dirty water in Jhanjheri and Khera villages of the Kharar constituency.

Sandhu met the DC and submitted two separate memorandums to her, wherein he said the problem was creating tension among villagers. He sought the appointment of a nodal officer to lay a drainage pipe in the villages to drain out the stagnant water which was entering people’s homes. He had visited the two villages to inspect the sites following complaints by villagers. While Jhanjheri is close to Kharar city, Khera is in Majri Block of the district.

The MLA requested requisite funds to be released for the same. Addressing the media here today, he said he would be seeking an inquiry into the use of the MNREGA funds for the work of sewerage systems.

Later, Sandhu met Kharar MC Executive Officer Sandeep Tewari and other officials to discuss the ongoing drive against encroachments in the city and directed them to be impartial and transparent. He asked them to prepare a plan for a temporary bypass in view of the ongoing construction work of the National Highway passing through Kharar city. To remove congestion and chaos within the city, he asked the EO to earmark at least four separate sites for setting up rehri markets in the township. All these proposals should be put up in the next meeting of the MC later this month, Sandhu said.
