Mohali, October 18

Ahead of the festival of lights, the Civil Hospital in Mohali has deployed additional staff and made arrangements to provide timely treatment to patients arriving at the emergency ward with burn and eye injuries on Diwali.

Surinder Singh, Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Civil Hospital, Mohali, said an eye surgeon along with nursing and ward staff would remain on duty to tackle emergency cases. “One surgical specialist will also remain on duty to deal with injuries. We have a special ward and reserve staff to deal with emergencies, said Surinder”

He said children should be careful while bursting crackers as there was a risk of permanently losing vision in case of an eye injury.

He said the hospital staff had made efforts to spread awareness about a cracker free and safe Diwali. The SMO said the leave applications of some of the staff at the hospital had been put on hold.  — TNS
