After waiting for a year, the affixing of high security registration plates (HSRPs) will start from August 2017. Prashant Puri, director of Test Security Licence Private Ltd, which has been allotted the work, said formalities before beginning the work would still take a month. “After depositing the performance guarantee and the singing of the memorandum of the understanding, we are likely to start the work from the first week of August,” he said.

Resident will have to pay Rs 160 and Rs 365 for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, respectively. Earlier, residents were paying Rs 79 for two-wheelers and Rs 183 for four-wheelers. As per the agreement, the rates will remain the same for next five years.

The company was selected as it agreed to reduce rates for the work after a high-powered committee under the chairmanship of the Home secretary negotiated with it on the issue.

Earlier, the Transport Department scrapped tenders twice for various reasons.

Firm to clear backlog in phased manner

Test Security Licence Private Ltd, the company selected for the purpose, will clear the backlog of around 60,000 vehicles in a phased manner. The delay in finding a new vendor has led to a huge backlog. The process of affixing HSRPs for the series CH01-BG, CH01-BH and CH03-N was stopped in July 2016 .

Work will be done at four locations

The affixing of number plates will be done at four locations. These locations are the RLA office in Sector 17, STA office in Sector 18, SDM (East) office at the Industrial Area and the SDM (South) office at Sector 42 .
