CHANDIGARH:Alisha Menon beat Apoorva Saharon 6-0 6-0 without conceding a single game to move into the main draw of the women’s category in the Rs 1 lakh CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship, at Sector 10, here today.

Chandigarh, June 25 

Alisha Menon beat Apoorva Saharon 6-0 6-0 without conceding a single game to move into the main draw of the women’s category in the Rs 1 lakh CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship, at Sector 10,  here today. 

Local trainee Prinkle Singh made it to main draw by defeating Arjita Dangwal in a one-sided match. Unseeded Prinkle dominated the first set 6-1 and repeated the same form in the second set to take it 6-2. Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa faced some resistance from Jannat Kaur before the latter conceded the match following an injury. 

Bajwa lost the first set 5-7. She made a good comeback to take the second set 6-4. But before the start of the final set, Jannat left the court. In the men’s category, CLTA trainee Sultan Singh Atwal beat Utkarsh Bhardwaj. 

Sultan used his big serve and powerful forehand to win the match 6-1 6-1. Udayan Bhakar also made it to the main draw by defeating Nikhilesh Kanojia 6-3 6-1.

In some close matches, Amit Beniwal was given a tough time by Puru Upadhayay. 

Beniwal lost the first set 5-7 but won the second 7-6(3) after a good fight. In the final set, he carried forward his form before winning 6-4. Aatharva Sharma defeated Vaibhav Kundu 7-6(4) 6-2 and Yashvardhan Singh beat Varun Sharma 6-2 6-4. The first round matches will be played on Monday at the CLTA Complex sector 10.

Women: Shivani Sravyo bt Rahat Mangat 6-0 6-2, Lalita Devrakonda bt Saisha Khanna 6-4 6-4, Nidhi Surpaneni bt Vaidehi Katkar 6-2 6-1, Prinkle Singh bt Arjita Dangwal 6-1 6-2, Alisha Menon bt Apoorva Saharon 6-0 6-0, Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa bt Jannat Kaur 5-7 6-4 (conceded), Samirti Singh bt Sharanya Sethi 6-2 6-4, Snehal Mane bt Neha Ghake 6-3 6-0.
