Arhtiya commits suicide at shop

Patiala, May 22

An arhtiya allegedly committed suicide at his shop in the AC sabzi mandi situated on the Sanaur road. As per information, Taranjeet Singh Chawla (60) came to his shop early morning and bolted the gate from inside. Some passersby saw smoke rising from the shop and broke the gate. Chawla was found charred to death.

He had allegedly tied himself with a chain before setting himself on fire so that he could not escape.

DSP (Rural) Gurdev Singh Dhaliwal said the police had recovered three suicide notes from his scooter in which he had blamed Jasvir Singh for his death. “The suicide note reads that Jasvir Singh had borrowed Rs 15 lakh from him but refused to return. A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against Jasvir Singh, Mohinder Singh and his wife and mother. — TNS
