Patiala: Khalsa College, Patiala, celebrated Armed Forces Flag Day to honour the armed forces personnel. Armed Forces Flag Day is observed every year on December 7. College Principal Dharminder Singh Ubha said the day was celebrated every year to honour the soldiers, sailors and airmen who protect our country day and night and those who sacrificed their lives for the unity and the integrity of the nation. The college principal further said on the occasion that commemoration of such days helped in remembering the sacrifices made by soldiers and inspired the youth to safeguard the nation against any threat. Dr Gurmeet Singh, National Cadet Corps in-charge and Squadron Leader; Dr Ravinderjit Singh, Controller Examination; Prof Gursharan Singh Gill, Head of the Department of Physical Education; Dr Jagjit Singh, Head of the Department of Music, and other staff members were present on the occasion.

Govt Mohindra College

Cadets of the Army, Naval and Air Wings of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) started a campaign to raise funds for the welfare of defence veterans and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day at Government Mohindra College in Patiala. College Principal Sangeeta Handa highlighted the importance of such celebrations by remembering soldiers, their valour, selfless commitment and sacrifices for the security and integrity of the country. The cadets will go to students and faculty of the college seeking donations for the noble cause. The total collection from the college will be presented to Cdr Baljinder Virk (Retd), District Defence Services Welfare Officer, Patiala.

DAV Public School

To spread awareness among the students about the sacrifices made by the armed forces personnel in protecting and safeguarding the country, Armed Forces Flag Day was observed at DAV Public School, Patiala. A campaign was also started to raise funds for families of war veterans. Monika Gupta, in-charge of the National Cadets Corps (NCC), spoke about the history and importance of this day and motivated school students to respect the soldiers who defend the country from any external agression. School principal SR Prabhakar said, “The freedom we enjoy is the outcome of sacrifices made by our soldiers performing duties in unfriendly conditions. So we should always express gratitude towards them.” About 3,000 flags were distributed among the students and staff on the occasion. TNS  

PCA reviews arrangements for India-Sri Lanka ODI

Mohali: The steering committee of the Punajb Cricket Association met here on Thursday to review various arrangements for the smooth conduct of the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka, at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium on December 13. PCA  honorary secretary RP Singla said during the meeting various bank branches and the ticket counter at the stadium were told to issue only two tickets to an individual. It was also clarified that only one ticket per student would be allowed.  The security and parking arrangements were also reviewed, he said. 

Gursagar boys log 45-run win

Chandigarh: Gursagar Cricket Academy defeated SNPS Cricket Academy by 45 runs on the second day of the inaugural X-Max Cup U-17 Inter-Academy Cricket Tournament here on Thursday. Batting first, Gursagar boys posted 174/5 in 25 overs. Awanish (44), Rajveer (35) and Vikramjeet Singh (33) made significant contributions to the total. Fro the bowling side,  Jaspreet Singh claimed 3/24, while Ram Singh bagged 2/24. In reply, SNPS boys could only manage 129/7 in 25 overs. Aric was the pick of bowlers for Gursagar Academy, claiming 4/31.In the second match, KLCA Cricket Academy beat Cricket Bash Academy by 26 runs. Opting to bat, KLCA scored 176/6 in the allotted quota, with Taranjot Singh scoring a solid 50. For the bowling side, Sajan Khan and Yashdeep claimed two wickets each. In reply, Cricket Bash Academy managed 150/6 in 25 overs. Sagar made a decent 48, while Gurmehar Singh hit a 45. Shubham  and Navdeep claimed two wickets each for KLCA

St. Kabir beat Vivek High

Chandigarh: St. Kabir School, Sector 26, beat Vivek High School, Sector 38, by nine wickets in the U-13 inter-school cricket tournament. Batting first, Vivek High scored 93/5 in 20 overs, with Prabhjot (33) and Subham (30) making vital contribution to total. In reply, St. Kabir boys scampered home in 16.2 overs.—TNS 

Cheating: 4 of family booked 

Lalru: The Lalru police have booked four members of a family for duping two brothers of Rs 35 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. According to the police, Seeshpal and Mahinder Singh of village Haripur Hinduan near Dera Bassi, in a complaint to the SSP, Mohali, had alleged that Gurnam Singh, along with his three family members, had duped them of Rs 35 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. The victims stated that they paid the amount in instalments to Gurnam Singh and his family members but they neither sent them abroad nor returned the money. When the victims demanded their money back, they started dilly-dallying. OC
