Remove heaps of leaves

The Chandigarh MC organised several events to mark Swachh Bharat Parv on Wednesday, but ground reality speaks something else. A park adjacent to ISKCON Temple in Sector 36 is normally let out for wedding functions. However, it has been observed that after functions are over, residue and leftover items are not cleaned. The leftover remains there for several days, giving an ugly picture. Similarly, leaves collected at different places after sweeping are not removed immediately. Hope the authorities concerned will look into the matter and get the park cleaned and heaps of leaves removed immediately.  —AS Ahuja, Chandigarh

Illegal hoardings dot city

The grim issue of illegal hoardings in India is not being paid deserved attention it needs. These illegal hoardings can be found at traffic junctions, outside public and private institutions and outside religious places also. These hoardings distract drivers and commuters on roads and are a major cause of accidents. These days not only such hoardings but also numerous advertisement pamphlets are being pasted on the walls at market places. The MC should order a blanket ban on such illegal hoardings. Defaulters should be booked and made to pay hefty fine. Moreover, there is a need to sensitise people that there are other sources of advertisements such as social media and Internet, which, if used in a proper way, can do wonders. —Jaspreet Singh, Patiala
