Ban on sale of exposed eatables

CASH:Chandigarh: Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, has banned the sale of all kind of exposed eatables such as sweets, cakes, biscuits, breads, parched grain of all kinds and cut fruits.

The sale of un-chlorinated drinking water through water trolleys obtained from unauthorised sources and ice/ice candies/aerated water sold through outlets under unhygienic conditions is also banned. The order, implemented with immediate effect, will remain in force in the city for one year. TNS

Kozhikode delegation visits MC

Chandigarh: Radhakrishnan, Chairman, and Rahiya, Deputy Chairman, from the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation (Kerala), along with a delegation of 46 members, held a meeting with Rajesh Gupta, Senior Deputy Mayor, Uma Shankar Gupta, Additional Commissioner, Sanjay Arora, Superintending Engineer, Public Health, MC, Chandigarh, on Friday. The Senior Deputy Mayor welcomed the delegation in the office and the Additional Commissioner gave a brief introduction regarding various projects and functions of the corporation, roads, water supply, gardens and green belts, solid waste management, urban planning, architecture and development of Chandigarh, etc. The delegation also visited various projects of the MC such as Water Works, Sector 39, Sewerage Treatment Plant, 3 BRD, gardens, including Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, etc. TNS

Three held under NDPS Act

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested three persons under separate cases of NDPS Act. The Operation Cell of the Chandigarh Police has arrested Mohit Chaudhary, a resident of Sector 44, from near the Central Government press office, near Hallo Majra, while possessing five grams of heroin. A case has been registered at the Industrial Area police station. In another case, the Operation Cell arrested Rahul Ghai, a resident of Kharar, while possessing five grams of heroin. The accused was arrested from Mauli Jagran. A case has been registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. A team of the Crime Branch arrested Vikas Sharma, a resident of Sector 41, from near Shivalik School gate in Sector 41 while possessing 405 grams of charas. The accused is an engineer. A case has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Cash, mobile phone snatched

Chandigarh: Basant Thapa, a resident of Burail village, Chandigarh, alleged that unknown occupants of a car threatened him with a knife and snatched Rs 300 and a mobile phone from him at the Sector 32/33 small chowk. A case has been registered. TNS

Drive to boycott Chinese goods

Chandigarh: The Swadeshi Jagran Manch has started a drive to make people aware of boycotting the products of Chinese companies. The drive was carried out in the Old Book Market at Sector 15 here on Friday where area residents and councillors Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu and Raj Bala Malik took part. The drive was started from Moonlit Park in Sector 22 on Raksha Bandhan. Deepak Batra, convener of the manch, said they had decided to boycott Chinese products in view of the standoff between China and India at Doklam and promote Indian products. TNS

Mobile van flagged off

Panchkula: Under the “Save Environment Save Life”, a clean and green campaign, that was launched recently by the Haryana State Legal Services Authority, Ritu Tagore, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Panchkula, on Friday flagged off a mobile van carrying plants by a panel advocate and paralegal volunteers. The van will visit different sectors and societies in Panchkula and volunteers will distribute saplings among residents, students, etc. Around 100 plants were planted on Friday. TNS
