Nabha, April 15

The administration swung into action by taking possession of the three-acre prime land at Shanti Enclave allegedly encroached upon by senior BJP leader and industrialist Om Parkash Jindal here on Sunday.

According to information, the land belongs to the Wakf Board and Jindal was allegedly trying to encroach upon the land by illegally constructing a building on the land. After the matter came to the notice of Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, he directed SDM Jashanpreet Kaur Gill to submit a report within two days.

SDM Jashanpreet Kaur Gill accompanied by Kanungo and Patwari, officials of the Revenue Department, reached the spot to measure the total area of the land. A large number of policemen were also present on the occasion.

Dharamsot also reached the spot to supervise the anti-encroachment drive as allegations were being made that Jindal was encroaching upon the land after receiving backdoor support from him.

It is pertinent to mention here that after facing flak from Dharamsot for rampant encroachments in the erstwhile princely town, the local municipal authorities had demolished 20 shops being illegally constructed by Jindal in the mini-market on January 19.

Dharamsot said he had received a complaint that illegal construction was going on near his residence and also heard that he was supporting the encroachment. He said he immediately directed the SDM to conduct an inquiry and submit the report to him to bring out the truth.

SDM Gill said after receiving information about the illegal encroachment, measurement of the land and other formalities were also being done to prepare the report, which would be sent to the state government.
